Rick Mercer
Rick Mercer is one of Canada’s most recognizable comedians, broadcasters, and political satirists. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Mercer first gained national attention in the 1990s on the satirical news program This Hour Has 22 Minutes, where his sharp political humour and memorable segments quickly made him a fan favourite.
He later hosted the long-running CBC series Rick Mercer Report, which aired from 2004 to 2018. The show blended comedy, commentary, and cross-country adventures, with Mercer famously delivering his rapid-fire “rants” in alleyways across Ottawa, Ontario.
Known for his quick wit and uniquely Canadian perspective, Mercer has received numerous honours for his contributions to broadcasting and comedy, including appointment to the Order of Canada. Through television, writing, and live appearances, he remains one of Canada’s most beloved cultural commentators.
